A touch of love: Ein Album entsteht im Homestudio
From 10/08/2022 to 01/10/2023 my work colleague Waldemar and I recorded an album together. In his youth he taught himself to play the guitar.
In his workplace we set up a small home studio where we recorded 20 of his self-interpreted songs. The repertoire includes classical Spanish melodies, little classics by J.S Bach, Celtic songs and personal favorites of Per-Olov Kindgren. As requested, I accompanied the recording of the songs with my camera.
For Waldemar, it was largely a personal project, for himself and his family.
We both imagined the way to the finished album to be much easier. My laptop was prepared with the recording program Audacity and my microphone and we started with the first recordings. Our first recording was on 09.10.2022 "I miss you" by Per-Olov Kindgren. For longer songs like "Marie" which was very important to Waldemar, we recorded parts of the song which we later puzzled together in the program.
Again and again we listened to the album on his stereo at home, corrected mistakes, re-recorded parts of the songs and compared versions.
When we were both satisfied with all the songs, I took care of the design of the album. What helped me a lot was that Waldemar already had a good idea about the look of his album.
Here I have captured Waldemar in his "radio room". Besides his guitar, he repairs and collects as a hobby very nostalgic and old radios. I always found his knowledge and passion for music very positively infectious. When we weren't recording songs or taking pictures together, we also enjoyed talking about music and everyday things. My physical well-being was always taken care of, I appreciated his hospitality very much.
Waldemar played, matched to the songs, with 2 different guitars. On his concert guitar from Höfner, he prefers to play ballads. The tones of the guitar are very full and have a warm tonal spectrum. On his second guitar from the manufacturer Walden, on which other strings are mounted, he played e.g. the Spanish melodies from the album. These strings produce a rather distinct crystal clear sound. By playing the different guitars in the album, you have a subtle and pleasant variety of listening.

The work was a great experience for both of us. The mutual motivation, support and learning in this stage of life had an added value for us as colleagues and friends that I look back on with pleasure.
